Delaware Criminal Law Attorney

Francis E. Farren, Esq.

I worked in law enforcement and as a prosecutor for many years before I became a criminal defense lawyer. Every day, I put those insights to good use in defending my clients and helping them navigate the criminal justice system.

From 1997 to 2005, I worked with the Delaware Department of Justice as a deputy attorney general. I prosecuted cases in magistrate court, family court, the Court of Common Pleas and Superior Court in both New Castle and Kent counties. While with the Department of Justice, I also served as an instructor on multiple occasions at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina, teaching trial advocacy skills to new prosecutors.

As a D.A.G., I went to trial on a broad range of cases, including simple traffic offenses, drunk driving, domestic violence, forgery, fraud, burglary, robbery and even capital murder. Because I know how firsthand how prosecutors evaluate, investigate and prepare their cases, I know how to challenge them.

From 1989 to 1997, I worked at the Delaware Department of Corrections. As a probation/parole officer, I supervised Level II and Level III caseloads. During my tenure, I was promoted to senior probation/parole officer (in charge of over 1,200 Level I cases) and eventually to probation/parole supervisor. As a supervisor, I was initially in charge of intake, institutional release, master files, work programs and the Level 1 Unit, supervising a staff of over 15 people. Later on, I became the supervisor of the Day Reporting Center in the Wilmington office.

Once Fighting for the State, Now Fighting for You

I left the Department of Justice at the end of 2005 to start my own criminal defense practice, the Law Offices of Francis E. Farren, Esq., P.A. beginning in January 2006. Although based in Newark, I practice in all three counties of Delaware.

I provide vigorous and strategic representation for all misdemeanor and felony charges, and I also have a strong practice in DUI defense and traffic violations. I handle all related matters, including probation violations, expungement of old arrest records, DMV administrative hearings and CCDW permit appeals.

Working in the criminal justice system for over 24 years now, you can see that I certainly bring a lot of unique experience and insights to the table that you simply will not find in other defense attorneys. I look forward to the opportunity to put all of this experience to work for you!
