I started my criminal justice career as a probation/parole officer, and then worked as a prosecutor (Deputy Attorney General) for the State of Delaware before starting my practice. I received my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware, my J.D. from Widener University of Law, and I am a past instructor of Trial Advocacy at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

Whenever the facts and the law allow it, I work to obtain a dismissal of the charge or victory at trial. I believe in a strong defense of every misdemeanor or felony charge. As an attorney for the defense and as a prosecutor, I have successfully taken many cases through trial, ranging from DUI to capital murder.

The key in any trial is careful preparation. When I take a case, I painstakingly examine all aspects of the facts and the law. I interview witnesses. I look at police reports. When necessary I call upon experienced private investigators to uncover additional facts about the matter. Then I use the facts and the law to fashion the strongest defense strategy possible.

A Strong Advocate In Negotiation

In my experience as a prosecutor, I saw many defense lawyers accept plea agreements which provided less than they could have gotten. Had they understood the strengths of their position and the weaknesses of the prosecution's their clients would have ended up in a much better position than they did. In my defense practice, I do not make this type of mistake. I understand how prosecutors evaluate, prepare, and prosecute their cases.

I can sense when they are in a strong position, and when their case faces problems. I also understand the constraints that a prosecutor faces, and how motivated he or she can sometimes be to achieve a result will be acceptable to the supervising prosecutor.

When a plea agreement is the best option for the client, I use this knowledge to obtain the very best deal possible.
