I work exclusively in criminal law and handle all levels of criminal and traffic matters. Based in Newark, I practice regularly in all three counties of Delaware. My clients include people who have never been arrested and people facing severe punishment because of past convictions. I also represent many young adults attending the University of Delaware and juveniles in trouble with the law.
The Background to Protect Your Interests
I started my criminal justice career as a probation/parole officer, and then worked as a prosecutor (Deputy Attorney General) for the State of Delaware before starting my criminal defense practice. I received my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware, my law degree from Widener University of Law, and I have taught trial advocacy to new prosecutors at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

When the facts and the law allow it, my goal is to obtain a dismissal of the charge or victory at trial. I believe in providing an assertive defense whether you are facing prison for a felony charge or the consequences of a misdemeanor conviction. As an attorney for the defense and for the prosecution, I have successfully taken a wide range of cases to trial, from DUI to drug trafficking, sexual assault and capital murder.
The key in any trial is careful preparation. When I take a case, I painstakingly examine all aspects of the facts and the law. I interview witnesses, look at police reports and — when necessary — call upon experienced private investigators to uncover additional facts about the matter. Then I use the facts and the law to fashion the strongest defense strategy possible.

When I served as a prosecutor, I saw many defense lawyers accept plea agreements in which the accused person could have gotten a much more favorable outcome. As a criminal defense attorney who has the experience of practicing in all three counties in Delaware, I do not make this type of mistake, and my reputation speaks for itself.
I understand how prosecutors build their cases and how they proceed. I can gauge when they are in a strong position, and when their case against my client is flawed. I also understand the constraints and pressures that prosecutors face and what motivates them to negotiate reasonable deals.
